Questions from installers.

Many of the problems listed below will not occur if the opening is square. Check the diagonal measurements to see if the unit is square. If the opening is out of square by more than1/2'', part 'F' may need to be packed out from the wall at the top or bottom. If in doubt, it is recommended that installers dry fit the unit before fixing or caulking is applied.

One or both of the button(s) that the rail end cap snap-fits onto at the top and bottom of part 'F'( wall jamb) has been sheared off or is missing.

A1. Fit a #10 gauge countersunk screw (preferably stainless steel) in place of the missing button, leave the head protruding far enough to allow the square rail snap-cap to push fit over the neck of the screw. Apply silicone around the screw thread before fitting the cap.

A2. Alternatively, fit the top and bottom rails into the canister with the sliders running inside the track. Pull the screen across to the closed position. From the inside of the shower, drill through part 'F' into the hollow section of the shower rail. Fit a 1 D2'' #6 or #8 Pan head stainless steel screw, and cover with a snap cap for tidy appearance. Leave enough clearance between part "f" and at the end of the rail to fit the square rail end caps over the rail from the outside.

Do I need a professional to install the screen?

A handy person can install one in less than 1/2 an hour. It uses double-sided adhesive tape already installed, requiring only a hacksaw, some caulking and a tape measure

The screen will not retract fully into the canister.

A. Can be caused by an obstruction in the track, or the tracks are not parallel all the way across the opening. First check for any obstruction in the tracks, and spray them with a silicone lubricant, operate the screen carefully to see if operation improves. If it does not, check the following :

1) Is the bottom rail straight. Over long distances the rail may sag slightly in the middle or may be pushed upwards in a curve if too much sealant is forced under the rail. Make sure the bottom rail is straight, it should have approx 1/8' clearance all the way along underneath the rail, when fitted on a flat surface. If the bottom rail is not straight, correct it.

2) Should the problem continue, remove the top rail. Sand or remove a small amount of material from the top edge of the top slider, spray the track with silicone and reinstall the rail.

3) If the problem still persists, remove the top rail, top slider, pin and its circlip, enlarge the slider pin hole with a 5mm drill to allow more vertical play for the slider pin.

Screen will not latch onto part 'F', and will not stay closed.

A. Either the opening is out of square, or part 'F' is bowed or bent towards the outside of the unit.

1. Check the diagonal measurement of the opening, and correct out of square situations.

2. Use a sharp knife/blade, cut the middle section of part 'F' away from the wall. Leaving approx 1'' at top and bottom of 'F' attached to the wall. Push part 'F' toward the inside of the shower/tub and operate door. When door catches correctly, mark position and either remove and re-tape part 'F', or fix it in the required position by drilling and screwing into side wall. Caulk the vertical joints.

Top or Bottom edge of screen has a large bow in the screen material.

A1. The opening is out of square, check diagonal measurements as in previous question. Correct if possible by packing between wall jamb, (part 'F') and the wall on which it is mounted.

A2. If the screen is already installed then you may have to adapt the alloy handle section or reposition the slider to remove the bow.

Often, the reason for the bow in the screen is that one of the sliders (top or bottom) hits against the closing side "f", before the opposite end does, leaving a small gap at the end that has not quite reached the closing side. Continuing to force the door closed to eliminate the gap will produce a bow in the screen material at the end which met the wall first. To correct this you will either grind off a small section on the slider or cut/grind a small section off the handle. First determine which slider (top or bottom) is "hitting" the wall. Mark how far back the slider needs to be ground off or how much material of the handle section needs to be removed. Unclip the cir-clips from the back of the slider pins and handle and detach the screen from handle section. Cut away the section of the handle that contacted the wall. Reassemble the screen.

HINT FOR INSTALLERS: You can cut out a section at the base of the wall jamb so that the slider has more leeway in out of square situations prior to installation. This may eliminate the chance of a bow in the screen.

Screen will not retract at all, and is not under tension while being pulled across to the closed position.

A1) The spring is broken, fit a new refill screen.

A2) In some very small openings the screen may not have enough tension on it to overcome resistance that may occur if the wetted screen material contacts and sticks to the inside faces of the canister into which it retracts. If it is determined that the spring is not broken, check for obstruction in the rails, spray the tracks with silicone to increase the speed of retraction. If this is unsuccessful, undo the rear of the canister and add tension to the spring mechanism by increasing the mumber of turns on the spring gradually, until sufficient tension is applied to retract the screen fully.

The bottom edge of the handle extrusion scrapes the top surface of the tub.

Check the bottom rail has an even gap all the way along underneath the rail, and that the rail is straight.

Why does the screen leak when the shower is used?

Water can not run to the outside of the screen unless there is a gap in the caulking. Check where the leak is coming from and re-caulk the area. There may be leakage around the perimeter of the screen where the canister and wall jamb are attached to the wall. Caulk the entire perimeter of the screen
